Waste Reduction Week 

​Let's go waste-free at TCDSB!​

Toronto Catholic schools remain committed to introducing teaching opportunities for our students to become stewards of the earth through varios initiatives. Over the past several years many school have been able reduced their waste collection to once per week by participating in various programs such as ECO schools and implementing a Waste Free Lunch Program. 
In June 2010 Director's Council approved a report requesting that all schools introduce a Waste Free Lunch Program. Schools that implemented a daily waste free lunch program were able to reduce their waste  and increase the school’s diversion rate up to 79%.
Currently ninety five schools have a Waste Free Lunch Program. This Board-wide initiative will continue to educate our students around environmental issues and best practices, reduce the waste going to landfill sites, and improve the Board’s environmental footprint.

Congratulations to the winners of our 2019 Waste Free Lunch Challenge:

  • St. Dominic Savio Catholic School – Ms. Lozynska's Grade 3 Class
  • Venerable John Merlini Catholic School – Mr. Pallotta’s Grade 3/4 Class
  • St. Dorothy Catholic School – Ms. Zuzarte’s Grade 6/7 Class
