Igniting Hope

Allumer la flamme de l’espérance

May 4 - 8, 2020

OBSERVED VIRTUALLY

This year’s theme for Catholic Education Week (May 3rd-8th) is “Igniting Hope / Allumer la flamme de l’espérance”. The TCDSB will celebrate the significant contribution that Catholic Education has made to the community, the province and to Canada.  Our Catholic Graduate Expectations challenge students to articulate in society those fundamental values that underpin Catholic education.

Chosen before the COVID-19 challenges, hope has always been at the core of Catholic education. Please see the attached memos for more information.

Materials for Catholic Education Week – resources, prayers, reflections, songs, liturgies – can be found on the OCSTA website at www.goodnewsforall.ca or here: Igniting Hope. Included also are prayer services specifically for use by students and families in the home. You are encouraged to use the materials, which are divided into daily sub-themes as follows:

  • Monday: Our Hope in Christ  /  Notre espérance, c’est le Christ
  • Tuesday: The Hope Within Us  /  L’espérance en nous
  • Wednesday: The Hope Among Us  /  L’espérance au milieu de nous
  • Thursday: Hope for the World  /  L’espérance pour le monde
  • Friday: A Future Full of Hope  /  Un avenir rempli d’espérance

The Catholic Education Week song – Igniting Hope – is a wonderful song written by Chris Rait, a teacher with the Brant Haldimand Norfolk CDSB.  Click on this link to listen to the audio recording: https://bit.ly/2XFnakQ; also found on the website www.goodnewsforall.ca or here: Igniting Hope.

Please consider reading any of the 12 elementary school books that were selected to help highlight aspects of the CEW theme on Igniting Hope.

Catholic Education Week is also an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful work done in our schools – on site before closure, and now virtually – to animate our Pastoral Plan – Rooted in Christ: we Belong, we Believe, we Become!  The TCDSB is celebrating Catholic Education Week in many ways this year:
