Students at Tech Challenge Robotics Qualifier

On Saturday, November 15, Brebeuf College School proudly hosted an official FIRST Robotics – FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Qualifier, welcoming 17 competing teams from across the province. The event was a tremendous success, highlighting the strength of STEM education, teamwork, and community spirit within both the school and the broader FIRST Robotics community.

Brebeuf’s qualifier was supported by an exceptional group of Robotics students, Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) students, and dedicated staff, who worked tirelessly over two days to set up, operate, and take down the tournament. Students took on a wide range of leadership and technical roles, including emceeing, DJing, game announcing, field resetting, concessions, queueing, hospitality, and event logistics. Their professionalism and enthusiasm created a warm and engaging atmosphere for all visiting teams.

Brebeuf staff directors and coordinators—Connie Annetta, Danny Marozzo, Claudia Spina Femia, Rosemary Greco, and Diana Bita—devoted countless hours over the past several weeks to ensure the smooth organization of the event. Additional staff members, including Glen Nerona, Christine Shannon, Mike DaCosta, and Stephanie Savelli, along with several supportive parents, assisted in key areas such as pit administration, hospitality, concessions, and technical support.

A special acknowledgment goes to Anna Morabito, whose diligence, work ethic, and exceptional organizational support were essential to the success of both the teams and the tournament.

Brebeuf’s administrators played an important role in supporting the use of the school facility and coordinating with FIRST Robotics Canada, while the custodial team ensured the building remained clean, safe, and well-organized throughout the event.

The qualifier was livestreamed worldwide, allowing viewers from near and far to share in the energy and excitement at Brebeuf. Visiting teams and volunteers offered enthusiastic feedback, praising the school’s warm hospitality, efficient operations, and high level of student engagement.

The success of this FTC Qualifier stands as a testament to the dedication of the entire Brebeuf community—students, staff, and supporters—who worked together to deliver a memorable and inspiring day of robotics competition.
