On Saturday, December 6, Madonna students Nina and Kirsten were recognized at Out of Bounds’ 17th Annual Interfaith Remembrance. Out of Bounds is a trauma and grief support organization founded by Reverend Sky Starr that serves the Jane and Finch community.
As part of their Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) in Civics class, Nina and Kirsten researched and advocated for Out of Bounds to be the recipient of the $5,000 YPI grant. Their efforts were successful, as they were named the winning YPI group last school year.
At the event, Nina and Kirsten, along with their teacher Daniel Pupulin, Principal Kristan McTernan, and Youth and Philanthropy Initiative Program Director Marina Spalla, were recognized by the charity and Member of Provincial Parliament Tom Rakocevic. The grant supported Reverend Sky Starr and the Out of Bounds team in hosting the event, which also honoured victims of gun violence in the neighbourhood over the past year.
