A team of four students from Senator O’Connor College School— Jeremy D., Aidan K., Nobel Z., and Andrej N.—has won the Outstanding Canadian Paper Award in the 2025 International Mathematical Modeling Challenge (IMMC).
With the guidance of their mentor, Mr. Hedley, the team excelled in this prestigious competition, which challenges high school students worldwide to apply mathematical thinking to real-world problems. Their achievement means they will now represent Canada in the international round of the IMMC.
This year’s challenge asked students to choose a sport they are passionate about and develop a model to create a fair and effective schedule for a Global Sports League (GSL)—one that could also adapt to changes in the league. The team spent their March Break researching, testing solutions, and compiling a comprehensive report.
The IMMC promotes mathematical modeling as a powerful tool for understanding and solving practical problems beyond the classroom. Congratulations to the team for their outstanding work and for showcasing the power of collaboration, critical thinking, and mathematics on the global stage.
