Large group of students on a stage for Black History Month

Senator O’Connor’s (OCS) Black Students Association (BSA) organized initiatives throughout the month of February to honour this school year’s theme: Canadian society is shaped by the impact and innovation of Black changemakers. After a month of activities, they collaborated with the instrumental and vocal music classes, as well as the school choir, to present a commemorative and celebratory assembly.

The assembly featured a student-produced film titled “Black Excellence Lives Here”—highlighting Black staff members at OCS—two spoken word performances, a student-led cultural fashion show, various spirituals and hymns, and a powerful step routine.

Throughout the month, the BSA worked to ensure that the diverse range of Black culture and achievement is seen, celebrated, and recognized at OCS.
