The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) proudly recognizes Sherwyn Benn on his induction into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2026.
A standout student-athlete, Benn served as a four-year captain and steady point guard during his time at the University of Toronto. He played a key role in leading the team to the 1996–97 Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU) national quarterfinals and set the program’s single-season steals record. Beyond his playing career, Benn has continued to shape the game as a mentor and leader, earning recognition as a Level III certified coach.
Currently in his 14th season as an assistant coach with the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women’s basketball program, Benn has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to excellence in athletics. Since joining the program in 2012, he has contributed significantly to the development of student-athletes both on and off the court.
In addition to his work at the post-secondary level, Benn continues to make a meaningful impact within TCDSB. Through his leadership as a teacher, coach, and athletic director, he inspires student-athletes and fosters a culture of dedication, teamwork, and growth.
The TCDSB community congratulates Sherwyn Benn on this well-deserved honour and celebrates his continued contributions to sport and education.
