During Holy Week, the Chaplaincy Team at Senator O'Connor College School transformed the school's main foyer into a sacred space of prayer and reflection through a series of Visio Divina installations. Each day, a new visual display was created to highlight key moments from the journey to Jesus' Passion, Death, and Resurrection. As students entered and left the school, they were invited into quiet reflection through these powerful scenes, which connected directly to the daily Gospel readings and prayers shared over the PA system. The installations included Jesus overturning the tables in the Temple, Jesus teaching in the Temple, the betrayal of Judas, and the Last Supper.
At the heart of the foyer stands the school's central cross, adorned with mosaic flame pieces created by incoming Grade 9 students during their retreat experience at the beginning of the school year. These flames serve as a reminder of each student's call to be a light within the school community and how each of them are part of a large flame of our community.
Surrounding the space are chains representing a meaningful symbol from the Grade 12 retreat. Inspired by Matthew 5:13–16, these chains reflect the idea that a community is only as strong as its weakest link. Together with the Grade 9 flames, they create a powerful image of a community where each individual light matters, and where we are called to support, strengthen, and uplift one another. As the Grade 12 students prepare to graduate, they are reminded of their responsibility to lead, to care for others, and to help ensure that every member of the community continues to shine, which in essence is part of the legacy they leave behind.
Throughout the Lenten season, the entire O'Connor community was invited to deepen their faith and turn their hearts toward God. This was lived out through charity initiatives, daily prayer, Chapel Masses, Bible studies with Father James, and the Stations of the Cross.
Together, these experiences created a powerful and prayerful journey, preparing the community to enter fully into the hope and joy of Easter.
