The Senator O’Connor Senior Jazz Ensemble, directed by Stephen Griffiths, will perform at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival Big Band Slam on June 21, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The event will take place at The Rex Hotel, 194 Queen Street West.
As part of the festival experience, students participated in two workshops with guest artist Christian Overton, one of Toronto’s leading trombonists, composers, and arrangers. The ensemble is excited to perform Christian Overton’s arrangement of I Loves You, Porgy and to have him join the group on stage as a featured soloist and guest performer in the trombone section.
The Big Band Slam brings together high school jazz ensembles from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and provides students with an opportunity to collaborate with professional musicians. The Senator O’Connor community is proud to showcase the hard work and talent of its jazz musicians on this Toronto Jazz Festival stage, alongside the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band, directed by Kelsley Grant, and the York Mills Jazz Band, directed by Elena Jubinville.
