On Friday, May 9th, music students from across the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) had the unique opportunity to attend a performance by the renowned Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra (TYWO), conducted by its founder, artistic director, and Order of Canada recipient, Colin Clarke.

Students from Bishop Allen Academy, James Cardinal McGuigan, Loretto Abbey, and Father John Redmond were in attendance for an unforgettable evening of music. The concert featured works by celebrated young composer Katahj Copley, including his dynamic pieces In Living Color and Dope. Copley captivated the audience not only with his music but also with his insights into the creative process, sharing how he blends diverse musical influences into his own distinct sound.

The performance left a lasting impression on students, who were inspired by the remarkable technique and musicianship of the TYWO ensemble—some of whom are current or former TCDSB students themselves. The experience offered students a powerful example of musical excellence and artistic expression.

Special thanks to TCDSB music teachers Adam Caringi, Angelo Bernardo, Davide Garofalo, and Frank Pincente for supporting experiential learning and connecting students to the vibrant arts scene in Toronto.

Students interested in joining TYWO are encouraged to audition in September. More information is available on the TYWO website.
