On February 26, Toronto Catholic District School Board Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Justice, Community Safety, and Emergency Services (JCSES) students from Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School and Bishop Allen Academy took part in a Sector-Partnered Experience (SPE) at Vantage Law, in collaboration with Y2 Entrepreneurship Labs.
Vantage Law is committed to delivering service excellence to its clients and partners in the areas of real estate law, private lending, and corporate law, while also providing notary public services. Students had a unique and immersive experience, working directly alongside the firm’s legal team in their office space.
The day began with a warm welcome from Alessandra Ocampo, Vantage Law’s Principal Lawyer and co-developer of the Sector-Partnered Experience. She shared her inspiring journey of travelling the world and developing her skills as an entrepreneur, lawyer, and advocate for family and community. Combining her legal background with a passion for helping others, she launched her own firm while also creating multiple businesses focused on making a positive impact in her community.
Lucas Chang organized students into groups and challenged them to analyze a case study drawn from one of Vantage Law’s own files. The activity encouraged students to think critically, consider the perspectives and emotions of those involved through assigned personas, and present their recommendations with clear rationale. Each group delivered a thoughtful analysis and received direct feedback from Vantage Law staff.
Students also participated in a full office tour and engaged in a career panel discussion, gaining valuable insight into pathways within the legal profession.
The Toronto Catholic District School Board extends its sincere gratitude to Lucas Chang and Alessandra Ocampo for organizing such an informative and engaging day. We look forward to providing future SHSM JCSES students with the opportunity to learn from this unique and inspiring experience.
