Congratulations to two outstanding students from the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), who have been recognized for their exceptional achievements and connection to Irish heritage!
Grade 7 student Kate O. from St. Pius X Catholic School and Grade 9 student Madeline D. from Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School and Regional Arts Centre were presented with the prestigious Award of Merit by Janice McGann, Consul General of the Republic of Ireland, Dr. David Sylvester, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of St. Michael’s College, and Pa Sheehan, Assistant Professor of the Teaching Stream at St. Michael’s College.
The award, created to honour Canada’s Irish Heritage Month in March and to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Thomas D’Arcy McGee, celebrates the historical and ongoing contributions of people of Irish descent in Canada.
Each student will receive a $300 honorarium in recognition of their achievement.
The TCDSB congratulates Kate and Madeline on this remarkable honour and applauds their contributions to preserving and celebrating Irish-Canadian heritage and culture!
