On Thursday, November 20, Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School's Music students had an unforgettable experience in a songwriting masterclass with acclaimed singer-songwriter Justin Nozuka. Not only did they learn about his creative process, they also had the unique opportunity to share their own compositions directly with him.

Born in New York City and raised in Toronto, Nozuka began writing songs at age twelve and released his debut album Holly in 2007, when he was still in high school. Over the years, he has become known for blending folk, soul, R and B, and pop into deeply emotional, introspective music, which reflects how his sound has matured while staying rooted in heartfelt songwriting.

Through personal stories, live demonstrations, and feedback drawn from years of professional experience, Nozuka inspired these young musicians, helping them refine their craft and express their voices with confidence. The session was a vibrant celebration of creativity, talent, heritage, and the transformative power of music, leaving students energized and motivated to continue writing and performing.
