Father John Redmond Students Tackle Concussion Recovery Solutions at University of Toronto Experience

On May 27, Health and Wellness and Justice, Community Safety and Emergency Services Specialist (JCSES) High Skills Major (SHSM) students from Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School participated in a Sector-Partnered Experience (SPE) at the University of Toronto Athletic Centre.

The day was facilitated by Seth Mendelsohn and Dr. Michael Jorgensen from Headsup CAN, a non-profit organization dedicated to concussion advocacy, education, and brain injury awareness.

Students applied their clinical and critical thinking skills as they worked in teams to address a real-world challenge: to design a creative and innovative solution that could be implemented in their school to better support students experiencing mental wellness challenges following a concussion. The day concluded with student teams delivering presentations to a panel of experts.

The experience provided an engaging opportunity for hands-on learning and helped equip students with valuable skills to support future pathways in health care. Thank you to the Headsup CAN team for organizing the experience and mentoring students throughout the day.
