Last week, our talented team of tennis athletes—Isabella S. (Grade 12), Sophia B. (Grade 10), and Juliana C. (Grade 9)—competed in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Championships. Our Open Doubles Team, consisting of Sophia B. and Juliana C., took home bronze medals, finishing third in the province. Congratulations to both athletes on this impressive achievement!

In addition, Mr. Paul Salvas, their coach, was awarded the OFSAA Leadership in School Sport Award. This prestigious honour is presented to a teacher-coach who best exemplifies the values of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations—fair play, good sportsmanship, enjoyment of sport, personal growth and achievement, and education through school sport. Please join us in congratulating Mr. Salvas on this well-deserved recognition.

This year marks Mr. Salvas’ 26th year of teaching and his 24th year at Loretto Abbey. Prior to joining The Abbey, he served as the Athletic Director at Mother Teresa Academy (now known as St. Mother Teresa Academy) and was the former Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association (TDCAA) Tennis Convenor. He is also the current Tennis OFSAA representative for Metro Toronto.

Beyond tennis, Mr. Salvas has made significant contributions to our athletics program. He previously coached ice hockey, leading our hockey teams to an impressive seven championship titles, and has also coached table tennis. Additionally, he serves as the treasurer of Friends of Loretto Abbey (FOLA).

Loretto Abbey is extremely proud of the accomplishments of our student athletes and deeply grateful for Mr. Salvas’ dedication, leadership, and ongoing contributions to our school community.
