Sedna K., a Grade 11 student at Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School, recently had the opportunity to meet with Member of Parliament Mr. Vince Gasparro on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. The purpose of the visit was to discuss her involvement in the “Turn Debt into Hope” (Development and Peace) campaign and to raise awareness about global financial and ecological debt. This experience provided a valuable understanding of the role of government representatives and the importance of youth engagement in shaping the future. This initiative emphasizes how countries in the Global South are often burdened by financial debt, while also being disproportionately affected by environmental damage caused by overconsumption and resource extraction in wealthier nations. By promoting awareness of both external and ecological debt, the initiative encourages advocacy for climate justice and global responsibility.
