Student running on the track

The Abbey Track team wrapped up its 2026 season over the weekend, with seven athletes representing the school at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Track and Field Championships.

Grade 9 student Isabelle G. ran a strong race on Thursday in the Novice Girls 1500 metre event to advance to Friday’s finals, where she improved her performance to place fifth. On Saturday, she delivered another outstanding result, placing third and earning a bronze medal in the 3000 metre event.

Fellow Grade 9 student Talia T. competed in the Novice Girls Triple Jump, recording her three best jumps of the season to place tenth overall.

On Friday, Grade 12 student Liz T. ran two exceptional races, first winning her heat and then capturing the Senior Girls 100 metre final in a time of 11.50 seconds. This performance set both an OFSAA and Canadian interscholastic record. She successfully defended her Senior Girls title from last year and now holds the distinction of being the fastest high school girl in Canada.

The Senior Girls 4 by 100 metre relay team, led off by Liz T. and joined by Kayah N., Zoe N., Siena Barbini, and Sofia Leone, also delivered an outstanding performance. After winning their heat on Thursday, the team went on to win the final on Friday in a time of 46.84 seconds, securing the gold medal by nearly a full second.

Congratulations to all team members who competed this season. Thank you to Mr. Bregin for his leadership and guidance.
