On October 2, 2026, Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School hosted our annual fun-filled Match Day, where students had the opportunity to meet their Big and Middle Sisters for the first time and begin building the connections that make the program so meaningful! Through this program, each Grade 9 student is welcomed into a family consisting of one or more "Big Sisters" from Grades 11 and 12, as well as a "Middle Sister" from Grade 10 who serves as a leader-in-training for the following year.

Overall, 450 students are involved in the program! Big and Middle Sisters provide mentorship and support, while also becoming familiar faces that Grade 9 students can turn to for advice on everything from homework and study tips to course selection, exam season, and the many other challenges that come with starting high school.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Steele and Ms. Racioppo for all the time and effort they put into running this program, as well as for the countless hours of work they do behind the scenes. We would also like to thank the Grade 11 Leadership class for planning and bringing Match Day to life, from decorating the school to creating a flash mob dance. Finally, thank you to our Big Sister Execs, our "Biggest Sisters", for working so hard to match our families and plan such a memorable day.

The Big Sister Program is an award-winning student-led mentorship program started by Madame Burchell and three former Grade 12 students with the goal of supporting Grade 9 students as they begin their lives at the Abbey. Match Day was a wonderful way to begin this year’s Big Sister journey, and we look forward to the friendships, mentorship, and memories that will continue to grow throughout the school year!
