The Arts (Dance, Music, and Visual Arts)

Our acclaimed Arts Department allows students to explore and discover various fine arts disciplines. Elective courses in Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Visual Arts, and Dance are available at any grade level and Yearbook Design is available in the Grade 11 or 12 year. Winter/Spring Art Showcases, dance competitions, and school performances provide platforms for students to showcase their talents.

At Loretto College School, we believe that engaging in the arts fosters creativity, self-awareness, and confidence, and provides opportunities for cultural enrichment and educational growth. Through artistic expression, students gain insights into the world, develop empathy, and cultivate aesthetic judgment.

In the Visual Arts program, students will unleash their creativity through drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art. Through hands-on projects, they will develop artistic skills and gain a deeper understanding of visual expression. In our Dance program, they will immerse themselves in movement and rhythm, learning styles like ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary dance. They will also have a chance to plan choreography and engage in performance opportunities that would allow them to appreciate dance’s cultural and historical aspects. In our Instrumental Music or our Vocal Music program, they will explore melodies, harmonies, and rhythms while learning to play an instrument of their choice, as well as their voice. They will experience the joy of making music together while delving into theory, composition, and music history. These transformative experiences will nurture their creativity, artistic abilities, personal growth, self-expression, and cultivate in them a deeper understanding of the diverse world of the arts.

The Arts at Loretto are available at every grade level. Tn the senior grades, they are also available as “M” credits, which means they can be used for College and University entrance applications. When choosing Grade 11 courses, students in the Arts can consider applying for Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in Arts and Culture to further develop their skills and place in the Art world.

Any course in the Arts offers students diverse career and post-secondary pathways. Visual Arts can lead to careers as fine artists, illustrators, or graphic designers. Dance courses open doors to professional dance companies, choreography, or teaching. Music courses offer opportunities as musicians, composers, music teachers, or music therapists. These disciplines also provide a foundation for fields like arts administration, film and media studies, or arts therapy.

Regardless of their chosen path, students develop creative thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and emotional intelligence, preparing them for rewarding careers and further education.
