Guidance, Student Services and Cooperative Education

The focus of the Guidance Department at Loretto College School is to provide students with the tools they need to be successful in school, in their daily lives and in preparation for their post-secondary pathway.

Some of the services and programs we offer to students include:

Career Planning

A student needs to think of their future by looking at what they need to be successful:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) Requirements

Remember certain criteria of the OSSD that must be met by the time Grade 12 has arrived.

Post-Secondary Schools

In most cases, you need a high school diploma to go to college or university in Ontario.

All schools set their own admission requirements. All programs vary in length and prerequisites.

Check with each school directly for specific information about admissions.

Skilled Trades

Want to work in the skilled trades? Employment Ontario has services right across Ontario that can help you become an apprentice.

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a school-to-work transition program offered through Ontario secondary schools. Full-time students in Grades 11 and 12 earn cooperative education credits through work placements in skilled trades

Cooperative Education, OYAP, and Dual Credit

At Loretto College, we believe in preparing students for success both in the classroom and beyond. Through programs like Cooperative Education, Dual Credit, eLearning, and the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), students gain real-world experience that brings learning to life. Each of these programs equips students to pursue excellence in every field, guided by curiosity, grounded in creativity, and graced with care.

Cooperative Education allows Grade 11 and 12 students to earn two credits while developing essential job skills through workplace placements. Students explore career interests, build confidence, and take ownership of their learning in safe and inclusive environments. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning by helping to shape what, how, and where they learn. These experiences often become defining moments—memorable, meaningful, and transformative.

OYAP gives students a head start in skilled trades such as automotive technology, plumbing, carpentry, culinary arts, and early childhood education. While earning their diploma, students explore apprenticeship as a viable and rewarding career path with the potential to become certified journeypersons.

In partnership with colleges like Humber, Centennial, Seneca, and George Brown, the Dual Credit Program allows students to take college-level courses and earn both high school and college credits at the same time. With support from instructors and school staff, students gain early exposure to post-secondary learning and explore future pathways with confidence.
