STEAM Specialty Program
At Loretto College School, STEAM is our distinctive cohort specialty program, designed to empower young women to become innovative thinkers, creative problem-solvers, effective communicators, and confident leaders.
Through the integrated study of Science, Technology, English, the Arts, and Mathematics, students investigate real-world challenges, make meaningful connections across disciplines, develop critical thinking skills, communicate ideas effectively, and create meaningful solutions that positively impact their communities and the world. The Arts are an integral part of this learning journey, providing students with opportunities to develop imagination, creativity, self-expression, empathy, and cultural awareness. By valuing both analytical and creative ways of thinking, STEAM supports the development of the whole student, academically, creatively, socially, and personally.
Our STEAM specialty program provides unique, hands-on learning opportunities that foster curiosity, innovation, and leadership. Students benefit from exclusive opportunities and experiential learning through community partnerships, industry and non-profit collaborations, specialized excursions, Robotics Club, and creative learning spaces such as our Design and Innovation Studio, where they can explore, design, build, and bring their ideas to life.
Throughout the program, students develop a Portfolio of Learning that reflects their experiences, growth, accomplishments, and evolving skills. This portfolio provides students with a meaningful record of their learning while helping them recognize and articulate the transferable skills and tools they are developing to navigate post-secondary education, future careers, and an ever-changing global society.
In Grades 9 and 10, students build a strong foundation through exploration, experimentation, collaboration, and interdisciplinary learning. They are encouraged to take risks, ask questions, explore possibilities, and discover how their learning can be applied beyond the classroom.
As students enter Grades 11 and 12, they continue to strengthen and apply their skills through the STEAM lens. Greater emphasis is placed on independence, leadership, innovation, and purposeful application of knowledge. Students refine the transferable skills they have developed and increasingly understand how these skills can support their individual pathways and future goals.
The STEAM program at Loretto College School prepares students to embrace new possibilities and confidently shape their futures.
