St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School has been awarded the 2025 Innovative Exemplary Practice Award for its outstanding school-wide production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The award was presented by the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s (TCDSB) Director of Education Dr. Brendan Browne, Trustee for Ward 11 Angela Kennedy, and Superintendent of Education for Area 1 Richard Walo.

The musical, which has been in development since October, is part of a proud biannual tradition at our school, bringing together over 150 students, staff, and parents in a remarkable display of collaboration, talent, and school spirit.

Led by Director Mr. Mark Sousa and Musical Director Ms. Charmaine D’Souza, the production showcased the creativity and dedication of our entire school community. From acting and singing to lighting, set design, costumes, and makeup, students took part in nearly every aspect of the performance, on stage and behind the scenes. Staff contributions included sound and lighting by Josh Mansker, costumes by Christine Ford, set design by Frank Fiorentino, Lisa Marinelli and Joe Farragher, makeup by Sanya Fernandes, choreography by Alessia Colavecchia, and vocal coaching by Marsha Bishop. Mariana Padilla Toca led outreach efforts to the school’s elementary feeder schools, helping to extend the joy and creativity beyond the high school walls.

The production was further supported by significant fundraising from the school’s Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) and coordination from the Student Council, highlighting the deep engagement of the broader school community.

St. Patrick’s production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was more than a show, it was a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community.
