Selected as one of only two schools from among forty-five participating schools in the Toronto region, St. Patrick Catholic Secondary School's Arts students took the stage at York University on May 21. Inspired by the true story of a St. Patrick student, Exstrophy tells the story of a sixteen-year-old girl living with a rare neurogenic medical condition that affects every aspect of her daily life. The play invites audiences to experience the world through her eyes, giving voice to a perspective rarely heard.

Adjudicator Mike Payette commended the production's artistry and cohesion, noting how its acting, movement, and design blended to create moments that were at once logical and dreamlike. He described the work as both "beautiful and terrifying," highlighting the complexity of Exstrophy.

The production was further recognized for its artistic excellence, receiving the Outstanding Choreography Award at the Provincial Showcase. In addition, student dramaturg Chloe F. was honoured with a prestigious Mira Award for Outstanding Dramaturgy, recognizing her exceptional contributions to the development and storytelling of Exstrophy.

The National Theatre School DramaFest supports thousands of students across Canada in the creation and presentation of original theatrical performances. Productions showcased at the district, regional, and provincial levels represent the culmination of months of dedication, creativity, and hard work. DramaFest activities take place in high schools across the country each year from November to May.

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and creative team of Exstrophy on this remarkable achievement. Your talent, dedication, and courage in sharing this important story have made the entire St. Patrick community proud.
