Throughout the month of May, the Loretto College School (LCS) Asian Student Union (ASU), with the guidance of Ms. Laura Caprara, celebrated the joy the Asian Canadian community has brought to our country through daily activities such as a special Matcha pop-up, a screening of “Turning Red” during lunch, and playing Asian Heritage Bingo.
The school’s celebration of Asian Heritage Month culminated on Wednesday, May 29, when the whole school met for an Assembly and Activity Morning. At the assembly, students watched a black-belt performance by student Jamin S.K. and the short documentary "A Heart in Two Places," which was created by student Janessa Q. this year as part of Ms. Clarisse Lopes’ Grade 12 English course.
The documentary was honoured with the Outstanding Storytelling Award at this year’s third Annual Mary Wards Documentary Film Festival. Then, all students were invited to participate in activities to learn more about our locally-relevant Asian cultures such as origami, onigiri making, Korean calligraphy, K-Pop dancing, karaoke, and more.
