Loretto College School students had the opportunity to collect and donate food to Abrigo Centre, an organization that—while not officially a food bank—serves as a vital resource for many in the west Toronto community by helping individuals and families achieve their full potential.

When local food bank shelves run dry, people often turn to places like this for support. It's a sobering reality: 1 in 10 Torontonians now rely on food banks to meet their basic needs.

The response to the donation was overwhelming. Everyone in the school shared an abundance of food. It was a reminder of how a simple gesture—bringing a few extra non-perishable items—can go a long way in helping others feel seen, supported, and cared for.

Adding an extra layer of warmth to the day, a handmade card was created by the Seniors at Abrigo who were there earlier. Every single employee signed it, making it a collective gesture of thanks and kindness.

While food insecurity continues to grow in our city, acts like this—giving, receiving, connecting—are what hold communities together.

At Loretto College – the school with the big heart – we believe that when girls are given the tools, encouragement, and opportunities they need, they can become successful women in the future!
