On Thursday, November 13, our Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Arts and Culture, and Health and Wellness students from Madonna Catholic Secondary School, Loretto College School, Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts, and Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School attended MUSIC CARE by Room 217™’s first SHSM Conference.
MUSIC CARE by Room 217™ is a social enterprise dedicated to making music a primary approach to health and well-being. Our students spent the day at the fabulous Metalworks Institute learning from music care experts on the power of a song in dementia care. It was an incredibly inspiring day filled with learning, reflection, hands-on workshops (including ukuleles and drumming), and musical performances that provided our students a true glimpse into how music can transform care!
Special thanks to Dawn Ellis, Bev Foster, and the entire team from Room 217 for organizing such a wonderful day for our students. It was enlightening listening and learning from Taylor Kurta, Ruth Watkiss, Ian Hoare, Gillian Wortley, Samuel Liu, Anne Bird, and Glenn Marais. We thank everyone for sharing their stories and expertise today, and look forward to additional workshops and conferences organized by Room 217 in the years to come!
