On November 12, Loretto College School's Social Justice Club hosted an "Inside-Out Shirt Day" working on their Development and Peace Schools badge for Supply Chain? Human Chain! All Loretto College staff and students were encouraged to come to school wearing their shirts and sweaters inside-out and backwards. This action reveals the "Made in..." tag. The goal is to bring awareness to the enslavement and poor working conditions of those who manufacture much of our clothing. Doing so allowed for conversations and acknowledgements of the human supply chain of workers that are often exploited and enslaved in our world today. To begin dismantling these points of structural injustice, wearing shirts inside-out and backward helps to make this invisible human cost visible.

Students were asked to donate $1-2 to wear civvies and to participate in the activity. We collected over $225 to donate to Oxfam Canada, an organization who works tirelessly at enforcing the Canadian Supply Chains Act. The Social Justice Club will continue to inform and work for a more just and equitable future.

At Loretto College – the small school with a big heart – we believe that when girls are given the tools, encouragement, and opportunities they need, they can become successful women in the future!
