Loretto College students had the privilege of spending a full day in service at St. Francis Table, located at Queen and Dufferin—a remarkable place where dignity, compassion, and community are at the heart of everything they do. This unique restaurant operates on the belief that every person deserves to be welcomed, respected, and nourished, and our students were able to witness and contribute to that mission firsthand.
Throughout the day, the students immersed themselves in every aspect of the experience. They helped prepare ingredients in the kitchen, plated meals with care, set tables, and greeted guests as they arrived. Many students took on serving roles, offering meals with warm smiles, kind words, and a spirit of genuine hospitality. Others assisted with cleanup, organizing supplies, and ensuring that the dining space remained a comfortable and welcoming environment for all who came through the doors.
The experience was profoundly eye-opening. Students were able to meet members of the community, hear their stories, and see how meaningful a simple meal—served with love—can truly be. For many, it was a lesson in humility, gratitude, and the importance of recognizing the dignity in every person we encounter. The day also aligned beautifully with Loretto values of justice, compassion, service, and the call to respond to the needs of others, echoing Mary Ward’s legacy of active love.
By the end of the day, the girls reflected on how acts of service, no matter how small, can have a powerful impact. We are deeply grateful to St. Francis Table for welcoming us so generously, for modeling what servant leadership looks like in action, and for giving our students an opportunity to grow in empathy, understanding, and faith. It was a moving and memorable experience—one that reminded us that when we serve others with humility and heart, we reflect God’s love in the world.
At Loretto College – the small school with a big heart – we believe that when girls are given the tools, encouragement, and opportunities they need, they can become successful women in the future!
