Loretto College Students Prepare Food to Be Distributed to Homeless as Part of A.C.C.T.S. Day

On November 6, students in Loretto College School's Social Justice Club had the opportunity to participate in the Toronto Catholic District School Board's (TCDSB) annual A Catholic Call to Serve (A.C.C.T.S.) day. Students began the day with a celebration of the Eucharist at the Loretto College U of T chapel with Father Michael Lehman. Then, they had the opportunity to hear inspiring stories of justice and peace from Juana Poveda at Canadian Jesuits International. Next, they had the chance and learning about what it means to be a leader from TCDSB's Michael Consul.

Finally, after having a tour of Timothy Schmalz's "Let the Oppressed Go Free" and "Homeless Jesus" sculptures installed at Regis College at the University of Toronto, students had the opportunity to make sandwiches and personalize bags. These food bags would then be given to the St. Michael's University at UofT's Out-of-the-Cold program, as well as each student having the opportunity to take a bag to deliver to a person in need on their way home. It was a faith-filled day full of reflection and action. Thank you to the Catholic Teacher's Centre at the TCDSB for making a day our students could truly find hope in.

At Loretto College – we are the small school with a big heart – we believe that when girls are given the tools, encouragement, and opportunities they need, they can become successful women in the future!
