Loretto College Participates in Launch of Global Ideas Institute Challenge

Joining for our second year, the Loretto College School's Global Ideas Institute (GII) team recently took part in the launch of this year's Global Ideas Institute. The Global Ideas Institute is a GTA-wide challenge organized and hosted by the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy where students are tasked with researching and creating innovative solutions to global issues concerning economics, politics, and technology. Only 4 Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) schools were accepted to participate.

This year's topic is "Advancing Clean Water Access Globally" and requires students to research how the increasing impacts of climate change, pandemics, and global conflicts have created more obstacles to improving access to clean water. Ultimately, the team will investigate how we can develop simple, low-cost solutions to improve access to safe drinking water globally in communities where it is currently unavailable. Our team will be working directly with U of T graduate student mentors throughout the school year to develop their inquiry and prepare a pitch, Q&A session, and research report poster before a panel of academic and field experts at the Symposium in April. Wish us luck!

At Loretto College – we are the small school with a big heart – we believe that when girls are given the tools, encouragement, and opportunities they need, they can become successful women in the future!
