On Thursday, November 13, Loretto College School's Arts and Culture and Health and Wellness SHSM students attended a full-day Music Care Conference, facilitated by the Room 217 Foundation and hosted at The Metalworks Institute.
The day focused on the use of music to promote well-being through the integration of music in care settings. An expert panel, including music therapists, wellness experts, music educators, singer/songwriters, and researchers, led students through a series of lectures, workshops, and drumming and ukulele lessons to illustrate how music can be an integral part of caring for people living with dementia. Students learned about the positive effect of music on brain activity, the use of music to help assist with day-to-day tasks, and the joy that music can provide for both seniors and their caregivers.
Loretto College's SHSM students were grateful for this enriching experience and would like to express their gratitude to the Room 217 Foundation, The Metalworks Institute, and the SHSM leads at the TCDSB for organizing and facilitating this awesome day!
At Loretto College – the small school with a big heart – we believe that when girls are given the tools, encouragement, and opportunities they need, they can become successful women in the future!
