Loretto College School marked IBVM Day this week with a special celebration honoring Mary Ward, foundress of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM) and of the Loretto Sisters, whose vision and courage led to the establishment of our school and continue to guide our community today.

Celebrated annually on January 23—Mary Ward’s birthday—IBVM Day reflects her enduring belief that "Women in time to come will do much." This message remains central to life at Loretto College, inspiring students to lead with faith, compassion, and purpose.

This year’s celebration was made especially meaningful by the presence of several Loretto Sisters, including Sister Evanne Hunter, Sister Mary Mallany, and Sister Ursula Witkowska, who joined students and staff in prayer and reflection. Their participation was a powerful reminder of the living legacy of the Loretto Sisters and their enduring impact on Catholic education. We were also grateful to welcome members of the Executive Team of the Angel Foundation for Learning (AFL) and from the Toronto Catholic District School Board's (TCDSB) Catholic Education Centre (CEC). A. Ferrer, Director of the Mary Ward Centre, attended and inspired us all by leading students and staff in an engaging and energizing activity.

As Loretto Sisters continue their journey as the Congregation of Jesus, united globally in mission, Loretto College School remains proud to carry forward Mary Ward’s call to "Do good and do it well." empowering young women to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
