The Development and Peace Schools Social Justice Club at Loretto College hosted a powerful International Women’s Day Assembly on Tuesday, March 24, to celebrate female trailblazers and empower the next generation of leaders.
The club’s initiative was driven by three core objectives:
Month-long Recognition: To acknowledge and honor International Women’s Day throughout the entire month of March.
Education and Inspiration: To inform the school community about inspirational women from both the past and present.
Achieving Milestones: To earn three specific badges for their 2025/2026 Development and Peace Schools banner: World Flipper, Bottled Water Free, and Lessons Learned.
Highlighting Global Goals and Local Trailblazers
During the assembly, club members highlighted the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #5: Gender Equality. They shared the stories of historical icons such as Hypatia of Alexandria, Marie Curie, and Jean Lumb, illustrating the profound impact women have had on global history.
The second portion of the event brought the inspiration closer to home. Club members conducted live interviews with three of Loretto’s own inspirational female educators. These teachers shared personal stories of their professional journeys across various fields, including the Arts, Social Sciences, Education, STEM, and Faith.
Engagement Through Learning and Celebration
To wrap up the event, the entire student body participated in a variety of hands-on activities designed to foster both learning and celebration. From "Contributions of Women" games and coloring sessions of inspirational figures to spirited rounds of karaoke, the activities allowed students to engage with the theme in a creative and meaningful way.
At Loretto College—"the small school with a big heart"—we believe that when girls are provided with the right tools, encouragement, and opportunities, there are no limits to what they can achieve.
