Dear TCDSB Community,
Following the tragic events that took place in Vancouver over the weekend, we want to take a moment to remind our community that support is available for anyone who may be affected. As a Catholic community, we keep all those impacted in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
We are mindful that this incident may be particularly difficult for members of our Filipino community, among others, and we extend our support to everyone who may be grieving or feeling vulnerable.
We recognize that events like these can cause feelings of sadness, fear, or uncertainty. If you or someone you know needs support, please know that help is available:
Students are encouraged to reach out to a trusted staff member, such as a teacher, guidance counsellor, or principal.
Families can access mental health resources on the TCDSB website, including tips for supporting children following difficult news or events.
Staff members have access to confidential support services through TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks), as well as through the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) by calling 844-880-9142/844-880-9143. Both of these resources provide counselling, crisis support, and additional wellness resources.
Additionally, we recognize the impact of this event extends outside those who are eligible for the Employee Assistance Program, so TELUS has activated their free TELUS Health Crisis Support hotline at 1-844-751-2133 for members of the public.
As always, our priority is to ensure that everyone in our TCDSB community feels safe, supported, and cared for. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you or your family needs assistance.
Together, in faith, we continue to pray for peace, healing, and comfort for all those affected.
Thank you,
Toronto Catholic District School Board
