Dear Families,
As we kick off the new school year, we look forward to welcoming back volunteers who give their time and support to our students and school communities.
As a reminder, effective June 23, 2026, the Board has new volunteer requirements. Different volunteer activities require different types of Police Record Checks (PRCs). For a refresher on which Police Record Check you need, the steps to obtain it, and how often they are required, please visit our Volunteering With Us page.
Now Live: New Online Volunteer Information System (VIS)
In previous communications, we shared that a new online system would be introduced for volunteers to submit their Police Record Checks (PRCs). The new system is now live.
To submit your completed Police Record Check:
Visit the Volunteer Information System.
Click Register here to create a Volunteer Information System (VIS) account. If you already have an account, you do not need to register again. TCDSB staff who are volunteering at their child’s school must upload their PRC through the VIS and use a non-TCDSB email address when registering.
Sign in to your account, click Volunteer Sign In and select Upload Police Record Check Document.
Upload the PRC provided by the Toronto Police Service (TPS) or the police service where you live. Do not email your PRC to your school.
Your PRC must be a PDF and cannot be password protected.
To remove password protection from a PDF: Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat and enter the password. Go to Tools/All Tools > Protect a PDF > Remove Security, then confirm and save the file.
You can upload the electronic PDF provided by the police service or a scanned PDF copy.
Click Submit.
Once submitted, you can check the status of your submission online. Contact your school Principal to confirm your eligibility to volunteer. Find your Principal’s email address by using the school directory.
Your Principal will confirm when you have received a Clear status. Volunteers must receive a Clear status before participating in any volunteer activities.
