Labour Update

Wednesday, January 15, 2020
Dear Parent/Guardian:
As you are aware, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association represents the TCDSB at the central bargaining table in negotiations with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), which represents both the Toronto Elementary Catholic Teachers (TECT) and the Toronto Secondary Unit (TSU).
To date, no agreement has been reached among the parties at the negotiating table.
OECTA has announced that teachers they represent will engage in a one-day, province-wide, full withdrawal of services on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 unless an agreement is reached prior to that time.
If a full withdrawal of services takes place, the TCDSB will have no other option but to close all elementary and secondary schools to students as there would not be sufficient supervision to ensure a safe environment for students. This would also mean that any field trips scheduled for that day would be cancelled.
For elementary students, please contact your local child care provider and before and after school care provider directly for how your service may be impacted.
For secondary students, SWAC, Co-Op and Night School classes scheduled for January 21 will be cancelled. Please note that students can still pick up their Night School report cards Tuesday evening.
Please note that permits will proceed as scheduled for January 21st.
Please be assured that we remain committed to achieving a negotiated collective agreement that supports our students and staff.
The TCDSB will continue to provide updates through Twitter, and through direct communication with families as new information becomes available.
We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Update Regarding Potential One Day Walk Out by ETFO

This notice pertains to families with children in JK, SK and SK/Grade 1 Classrooms

January 15, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian:

As you may have heard through media reports, the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) which also represents Designated Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) in Toronto Catholic District School Board elementary schools, has announced plans for one day walkout on Monday, January 20, 2020.

This means that ECEs will not be in TCDSB classrooms on January 20th if there is no agreement prior to that time, however TCDSB schools including kindergarten and SK/1 classes will remain open on Monday, January 20, 2020.

Please be assured that contingency plans are in place to ensure the safety and supervision of students. We will continue to provide parents with information as it becomes available

TCDSB remains committed to the collective bargaining process, and we hope that an agreement will be reached between the Province and the teachers’ unions.

We encourage you to continue to watch for updates via Twitter, and to visit our website for the latest information
