The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) will be holding a series of information sessions from December to February, to help address any questions parents/guardians may have before registering their child(ren) for the French Immersion or Extended French Program.

Upcoming French Immersion Sessions

In the TCDSB, the entry point for the French Immersion program is Junior Kindergarten. Students learn French as a subject and French serves as the language of instruction in most other subjects. A minimum of 3,800 hours is required for admission into the Grade 9 French Immersion program.

Extended French


In the TCDSB, the entry point for the Extended French program is Grade 5. Students learn French as a subject and French serves as the language of instruction in at least one other subject, such as social studies, history, geography, physical education, health and visual arts. By the end of Grade 8, students who will begin Extended French in in Grade 5 will have received 2,080 hours of instruction in French. A minimum of 1,260 hours is required for admission into the Grade 9 Extended French program.
