Labour Update

December 6, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians/Staff:

As you may be aware, collective bargaining is currently underway at the provincial level between the Ministry of Education and the Ontario Council of Trustees’ Associations and the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (which includes both the Toronto Catholic Elementary Teachers-TECT and the Toronto Secondary Unit-TSU).
There has been much media coverage of the ongoing labour negotiations and we wanted to make sure you were aware of what this might mean for the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB).
To date, no provincial agreement has been reached with respect to our teachers, and the Catholic teachers’ unions will be in a legal strike position effective Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 12:01AM.
At this point in time, the TCDSB has not been advised of any job action by the teachers, however we will be providing you with an update in the event that notification is received before the Christmas break. As per the existing legislation, five days’ notice must be provided to the Board in advance of the start of any possible job action.
Throughout the days and weeks ahead, we encourage everyone to watch for regular updates on our website at, and to follow @TCDSB on Twitter, check the 24-information line at 416-222-8282, extension 2873 or sign up for E-News (for email notifications) at
Our school board remains committed to the central labour negotiation process and is hopeful that an agreement will be reached soon.
